I am a wife, mother, teacher / child care provider, past President for Colorado Association of Family Child Care, past President Boulder County Family Child Care Association, founder, past President/Newsletter editor, current President for Broomfield Child Care Association.  I have been a conference trainer for the National Association of Family Child Care (NAFCC), the Colorado Associatgion for the Education of Young Children (CAEYC), the Colorado Association of Family Child Care (CAFCC), and the Broomfield Child Care Association (BCCA).  I have operated my child care business for the past 25 years.  I taught K-5, 1st & 2nd Grades for 4 years prior to opening my business. .  During 1996-1998 I served on Gov. Romer’s committees “The Summit of the 12”, “Bright Beginnings”, “Immunize Every Child By 2000”, “The Colorado Dept. of Early Childhood Education” and represented CAFCC at “Educare”.  I have been the recipient of training sponsored by IBM, AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Traveler’s Insurance offered by Work & Family Resource Center and Children’s Services.  I am the founder & owner of Child Care Educational Opportunities since 1992, which teaches early childhood workshops, child care business practice classes, Medication Administration, Red Cross CPR/First Aid and Universal Precautions to parents, church staff/volunteers and child care center staff / home providers.  I am committed to improving the quality of child care.

I was born March 2, 1952 near Richmond, Virginia.  I attended Piedmont Bible College and Virginia Commonwealth University.  After becoming the mother of three children, I decided to open my own preschool and child care home.  This enabled me to be at home for our own children and has allowed me the opportunity to assist many other families during the formative years of their children’s lives.  I have found this work very rewarding.  My children are independent adults who are working, attending college/ married.  They no longer need me at home, but I choose to continue operating my child care home.  I enjoy working with children and hope I am making their family life a little less stressful by the service I offer.

My first job after college was a teaching a class of 21 very active and imaginative Second Graders.  The next year I taught a wonderful group of 15 Kindergarten students.  The following two yeas I taught a combination class of First and Second graders.  Many of the children in this class had been in my kindergarten class the previous year.  It was great to spend so much time with these children. .  I have incorporated my experience as a teacher into my work as a childcare provider.  I have developed a program and methods of working with the children that prepares them to enter Kindergarten and be at the top of their class throughout their elementary school years.  If the children remain with me through school in a before/after capacity I continue to work with them on homework and phonics.  Children enjoy school much more if they are prepared to learn to read well.

I have completed the required training for these specialty licenses, "Infant/Toddler" and "Three Under Two years/Three Over Two years", and the "Experienced Provider" offered by the state of Colorado.  These classes are designed to instruct the provider in various areas of working with Infants and Toddlers and larger groups of children.  For years I chose to remain with the regular license to better serve the needs of the families in my care.  When these School-age children no longer needed care I applied for and was granted the "3 over/3 under two years" license.

Through Childcare Educational Opportunities I have the opportunity to share the knowledge I have gain through the years working with children and their parents.  I hope the classes offered by my company will improve childcare settings. By offering correspondence courses we hope to offer a more convenient method of learning for the busy childcare provider.

Children are gifts from God and it is our privilege to know and work with them.  They are our future.
